Freshman phenom setting new standards for Crimson Pride volleyball

9/11/2025 12:09:00 PM

Before classes even began, Bailey Stevens was already making a name for herself at IU Columbus.

The freshman Crimson Pride volleyball setter racked up an incredible 75 assists in her collegiate debut at the Governors State University Forester Tournament Aug. 15-16.

"I was nervous, but it was really exciting!" Stevens said. "My setting was pretty on point with our hitters, it was fun putting it all together."

Her stats have only continued to climb as the season has gotten underway. (Find her latest stats here.)

Bailey Stevens AS    "Bailey is one of our new setters this season, and from the     moment we recruited her, we knew she would become one     of the most important players on our team," said Head     Volleyball Coach Jose Olivo. "She is an outstanding setter     who will contribute enormously to our success this year."

She comes to IU Columbus from Yorktown High School,     where she helped lead her team to the 4A State     Championship final. She also competed with Munciana     Volleyball Club, one of the top-ranked clubs in the Midwest.

While she's used to a high level of play, Bailey's enjoyed the     challenge of college volleyball, saying the pace is quicker, the hits and serves are stronger, and she's enjoying running new plays and getting to know her teammates and coaches.

"I really fell in love with it here! I'm from a small town and     like the idea of a close-knit campus," she said. "Everyone has been so nice, and Coach Olivo is so encouraging, you can tell he genuinely cares about his players."

Stevens heard about IU Columbus from her friend Kami
Vester, who had visited campus,Bailey Stevens joined a practice and had already committed. She also knew returning player Olivia
Embry.

With a Psychology major and plans to minor in Criminal
Justice, this freshman from Yorktown is thrilled to be here.

"After my first game, I thought 'We have something good
going here!' And the fact that I'm getting an IU degree – I just love that. My parents really love that, too!"
