Liam Nelson brings a strong competitive background and proven coaching success to the program. A native of Ellettsville, Indiana, he began his running career at Edgewood Junior High and High School, where he was an all-area and all-conference performer and qualified for the IHSAA Regional in cross country all four years. His high school personal bests include 4:55 in the 1,600m, 10:40 in the 3,200m, and 17:27 in the 5K.
Nelson continued his athletic career at IUÂ East, where he set a school record in the indoor 5,000m and earned Second Team All-Conference honors at the River States Conference Championships. He later transferred to Indiana University Bloomington, competing for two years with the IU Run Club and qualifying for NIRCA Nationals.
In 2024, Nelson earned his Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from IU Bloomington. He has three years of coaching experience with cross country and track & field athletes ages 7–18. During that time, his athletes achieved multiple conference championships, state championship appearances, and national championship appearances.
Liam’s coaching philosophy centers on quality, consistency, and preparation, helping athletes build sustainable habits that lead to long-term success both on and off the course.
