IU Columbus falls to to Nationally Ranked Cougars

10/1/2024 8:21:00 PM

Box Score The IU Columbus volleyball team faced a tough challenge Tuesday night, falling to nationally ranked, #11 IU Kokomo in straight sets.

From the outset, IU Kokomo established their dominance. In the first set, IU Columbus found themselves overwhelmed, managing only 12 points while hitting a disappointing -.133. The team's attack was hindered by an impressive defensive effort from Kokomo, who recorded 13 kills against just 3 errors.

The second set offered a glimmer of hope for IU Columbus. They rallied to put up a stronger fight, with Sadie Egan leading the charge with 7 kills and showing flashes of offensive potential. The team improved their hitting percentage to .229, but despite the efforts, they fell short as IU Kokomo secured the set 25-21.

As the third set unfolded, IU Columbus struggled to maintain momentum. While they started with determination, their hitting percentage dipped again to .135. Defensive lapses allowed Kokomo to pull away, ultimately leading to a 25-13 defeat.

Notable performances included Egan's 7 kills and Cora Baker's contribution of 7 kills as well. However, the lack of offensive support from the rest of the roster, combined with IU Kokomo's efficient play, proved to be too much to overcome.

With this loss, IU Columbus's record now stands at 6-4 overall and 2-2 in conference play. The team will need to regroup quickly as they prepare for their next match-up, looking to bounce back and sharpen their skills in practice this week.

IU Columbus returns to action this weekend for another conference match-up at 2 pm.
