In a challenging conference matchup, IU Columbus suffered a 3-0 defeat against Rio Grande on Thursday, October 10. The loss dropped the Crimson Pride to 4-7-2 overall and 0-3-1 in conference play.

From the opening whistle, IU Columbus found themselves under pressure from a relentless Rio Grande attack. The visitors dominated possession and created numerous scoring opportunities, outshooting the home team by a margin of 10 to 3.

Despite the onslaught, IU Columbus' defense held firm for much of the first half. Goalkeeper Harris Weltz put in a valiant performance, making several crucial saves to keep his team in the game. However, the pressure finally gave in the 24th minute when Rio Grande's Joe McInnes broke the deadlock with an unassisted goal.

Coming out for the second half, IU Columbus hoped to mount a comeback. But their plans were quickly derailed as Rio Grande's Estevao Goncalves doubled the lead just five minutes after the restart, assisted by David Palade. The visitors sealed the victory in the 78th minute when Jevon Shuriah found the net, with Palade providing his second assist of the match.

As the game wore on, IU Columbus struggled to gain a foothold. Managing only three shots throughout the match, with just one on target, the team's offensive woes were evident. Midfielders Jon Michael Bright and Angel Roque provided the team's only attempts on goal, but couldn't find a way past Rio Grande's keeper Matheus de Campos.

In the closing stages, frustration began to show on both sides. Yellow cards were brandished to Saulo Luna and Kevin Cruz of IU Columbus, while Rio Grande saw five of their players cautioned. Despite this, IU Columbus continued to battle until the final whistle, with the entire team working tirelessly to limit the damage.

The Crimson Pride look to regroup quickly as they return to action on Saturday, for Senior Night, at 7pm.
