Box Score The IU Columbus Women's Soccer team fell to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College Thursday afternoon. Dropping them to 2-9-1 overall and 0-6-0 in conference play.
The Pomeroys established control early, striking twice in quick succession midway through the first half. Carley Balas opened the scoring in the 24th minute off an assist from Chloe Field, and Kennedy Trigg doubled the lead just two minutes later with an unassisted effort.
The Crimson Pride showed offensive promise, particularly through Cyanne St. Bernard, who led the team with three shots on goal. Nataly Cruz and Madelynn Thangam also contributed to the attack, each recording a shot on target. Overall, IU Columbus managed nine shots in the match, with four testing the opposing goalkeeper.
The second half saw Saint Mary-of-the-Woods extend their advantage, with Raelee Everhart finding the net in the 56th minute off an assist from Abigail Scott. Lois Carr completed the scoring in the 66th minute with an unassisted goal.
Goalkeeper Mallory Gilley recorded five saves in a busy afternoon defending the Crimson Pride net.
The match grew increasingly physical as frustration mounted for IU Columbus, resulting in four yellow cards issued to Lily Campbell, Billie Puente, Madison Merritt, and Cyanne St. Bernard. The team battled throughout, earning three corner kicks and maintaining an even foul count (12-12) with their opponents.
IU Columbus will look to regroup and continue their pursuit of that elusive first conference victory in their next match. The Crimson Pride are back in action, on the road, Saturday at Oakland City for 12 PM CT kickoff.
