10/3/2024 6:27:00 PM

Box Score IU Columbus suffered a 5-1 loss to Brescia University on Thursday, October 3. The loss dropped the Crimson Pride to 2-6-1 overall and 0-2-0 in conference play.

The Crimson Pride found themselves overwhelmed from the start, as Brescia launched an aggressive offensive campaign. The home team dominated possession and created numerous scoring opportunities, unleashing a staggering 25 shots throughout the match, with 15 finding their way on target. Brescia's relentless attack paid dividends early, as they surged to a 4-0 lead by halftime.

Despite the onslaught, IUC's goalkeeper Mallory Gilley put in another valiant effort. Building on her recent impressive performances, Gilley made 10 saves throughout the match, repeatedly denying Brescia's forwards and preventing the scoreline from becoming even more lopsided.

IUC's defense, anchored by Madison Merritt, Daniella Bulach, and Hannah Grimes, fought tirelessly against Brescia's persistent attacks. However, the sheer volume of shots proved too much to contain.

Brescia's Duda Feres opened the scoring in the 14th minute, assisted by Maci Uffelman. Feres struck again just five minutes later, doubling Brescia's lead. Isabella McChessney and Victoria Poon added two more goals before the break, putting Brescia firmly in control.

Despite falling behind by four goals, IU Columbus showed resilience in the second half. In the 62nd minute, Lily Campbell provided a glimmer of hope for the Crimson Pride, scoring an unassisted goal to put IUC on the board. However, Brescia quickly responded, with McChessney scoring her second goal of the match just a minute later to restore the four-goal advantage.

The Crimson Pride's offense struggled to generate opportunities throughout the match, managing only 5 shots total, with 4 on target. Lily Campbell led the team with 3 shots, while Logan Bierman and Nataly Cruz each contributed one.

Brescia's offense was led by Isabella McChessney and Duda Feres, who each scored twice. Maci Uffelman was a key playmaker, providing three assists in the match.

Despite the lopsided score, IU Columbus refused to give up, fighting until the final whistle. The team will look to regroup quickly as they face their next challenge in just two days.
