Box Score

Despite a valiant comeback effort, the IU Columbus women's soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision to River States Conference foe IU Kokomo on Thursday night in their season finale. The loss concludes IU Columbus's campaign at 2-12-1 overall and 0-9 in conference play.

The hosts stormed out to an early lead when Kelsi Hoot found the back of the net just 62 seconds into the match off an assist from Jaidin Millsaps. Hoot would strike again in the 25th minute, before Addison Waller extended Kokomo's advantage to 3-0 at the 30-minute mark.

Facing a three-goal deficit, IU Columbus showed tremendous resilience. Freshman Midfielder Cyanne St. Bernard cut into the lead in the 37th minute, converting off an assist from Lily Campbell. Campbell then brought the visitors within one goal just before halftime, scoring unassisted in the 45th minute for her fourth goal of the season.

Despite outshooting Kokomo 4-2 in shots on goal during the second half, IU Columbus couldn't find the equalizer. Goalkeeper Mallory Gilley made eight saves in the losing effort, while St. Bernard led the offensive attack with four shots.

The match saw its share of physical play, with five yellow cards issued between the two teams.

Following the season finale, Athletic Director Zach McClellan acknowledged the challenges women's soccer faced, while maintaining optimism about the program's direction. "We look forward to learning from this year and building towards the future. A special thanks to our seniors, Ana Jackson and Hannah Grimes for helping us build our program. Also, we've had some young players demonstrate they have the skills to play at this level in Cyanne St. Bernard and Mallory Gilley, among several others."
