IU Columbus Overwhelmed by Midway in 8-2 Loss

The IU Columbus Crimson Pride suffered a tough 8-2 defeat against Midway University on Saturday, October 5. Despite a strong early effort, IU Columbus couldn't keep up with Midway's offensive firepower, dropping to 0-1-1 in conference play and 0-1-0 overall.

The match began with IU Columbus taking the lead just two minutes in, when Cyanne St. Bernard found the back of the net. St. Bernard capitalized on a precise pass from Lily Campbell, putting IU Columbus ahead 1-0.

Midway responded almost immediately, leveling the score at 1-1 in the 5th minute with an unassisted strike from Cameron Banfield. Just moments later, Midway's Anna Kneisley added another goal off an assist from Banfield, turning the tide in favor of the visitors.

Despite trailing, IU Columbus remained resilient. St. Bernard added her second goal of the game in the 29th minute from the penalty spot, bringing IU Columbus back within striking distance at 3-2 after Lyla Khanthachack had extended Midway's lead to 3-1.

Holly Johnstone scored another goal for the visitors just before halftime, pushing Midway's lead to 4-2 at the break.

In the second half, Midway dominated the action, scoring four unanswered goals. Lyla Khanthachack struck again in the 54th minute, followed by two goals from Evie Clare, who struck in the 56th and 61st, and Morgan Harper in the 76th minute.

Midway outshot IU Columbus 31-7, with 22 shots on target compared to IU Columbus' 6. The Crimson Pride's goalkeeper, Mallory Gilley, was busy throughout the match, making 14 saves. Midway's keeper, Caylee Thompson, made 4 saves to secure the win for the visitors.

IU Columbus will look to bounce back from this defeat as they continue their conference schedule and return to action Thursday, October 10.
