The IU Columbus Crimson Pride volleyball team faced a heartbreaking defeat against the Brescia Bearcats in a nail-biting five-set thriller at CeraSports Park on Saturday October 5. Despite a valiant effort and moments of brilliance, the home team ultimately fell short in a match that showcased both their resilience and areas for improvement.

The day started on a challenging note for the Crimson Pride, with Brescia taking the first set 25-18. However, the team, led by Sadie Egan's exceptional defensive play, rallied in the second set. In a display of grit and determination, IU Columbus edged out a close 26-24 victory, evening the match at one set apiece.

Riding the momentum from their second-set win, the Crimson Pride dominated the third set. Sophomore hitter Cora Baker found her rhythm, pounding kill after kill as IU Columbus surged to a 25-15 win, taking a 2-1 lead in the match.

With victory in sight, the fourth set became a battleground. Despite strong performances from Kera Wischmeier and Maddie Hunter, Brescia managed to eke out a 25-22 win, forcing a decisive fifth set.

The final set saw the Crimson Pride's hopes slip away. Brescia's offense, led by their dynamic duo of Callie Mason and Jennifer Lee, proved too much to handle. Despite Egan's heroic defensive efforts, amassing an impressive 20 digs throughout the match, IU Columbus fell 15-7 in the final set.

The defeat brings IU Columbus' record to 6-6 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
