COLUMBUS, Ind. - In a spirited matchup at Circle K Fieldhouse at NexusPark, on Wednesday night, IU Columbus battled against IU South Bend but fell short, losing 91-63. Despite a strong first-half performance, the Crimson Pride couldn't keep up with the Titans' offensive firepower and rebounding dominance in the second half.
The game opened competitively, with IU Columbus trailing just 40-37 at halftime. Deante Luster led the charge for the Crimson Pride, scoring 22Â of his game-high 29 points in the opening period. His efficient shooting (11-17 FG, 5-7 3PT) kept the team within striking distance.
The second half, however, was a different story. IU South Bend found their rhythm, outscoring IU Columbus 51-26 in the final 20 minutes. The Titans showcased balanced scoring, with Jylen Petty leading the way with 20 points, including a scorching 4-6 from beyond the arc. They also controlled the boards, out-rebounding IU Columbus 44-19, a decisive factor in the game.
IU Columbus struggled to match IU South Bend's efficiency, shooting just 40% from the field overall. Xavier HighBaugh contributed 8 points off the bench, and Damontae Thompson added 7, but the Crimson Pride couldn't generate consistent scoring opportunities.
Defensively, the Crimson Pride couldn't contain IU South Bend's frontcourt duo of Shawn Brown (12 points, 11 rebounds) and Quentez Columbus, who orchestrated the offense with 10 points and 6 assists.
Despite the loss, the game highlighted the scoring prowess of Deante Luster, who delivered one of his best performances of the season. The team will look to regroup and secure their first win of the season.
The Crimson Pride will take the court again on Tuesday (Nov. 26) on the road vs Grace College (Ind.). Tip-off is set for 6:00 pm.
