Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

IU Columbus Falls on the Road to IU South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The IU Columbus women's basketball team had their work cut out for them Tuesday night, falling to IU South Bend in a decisive 95-48 defeat. The Titans, receiving votes to be nationally ranked, are a rising squad. Despite the loss, the young Crimson Pride squad showed moments of promise that hint at brighter days ahead.

Freshman guard Jacelyn Starks emerged as a bright spot, leading the team with a team-high 16 points and demonstrating her scoring prowess.

Amaya Collins complimented Starks performance with contributions across the board with 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists.

The two young guards tried to keep their team competitive, but between South Bend's offensive onslaught and the bench offering relief, the team's woes were painfully evident.

The Crimson Pride struggled to create open looks and found themselves consistently a step behind their opponents. IU Columbus shot just 31% from the field and 25%, compared to South Bend's 58.9% and 26.7%

Defensive challenges compounded the offensive struggles. South Bend's balanced attack seemed to find holes in Columbus's defense with alarming ease, with multiple players scoring in double digits and creating havoc on the court. The Crimson Pride was out-rebounded 49-29.

With this loss, the team now drops to 2-8 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

The team will look to regroup and find their footing in their next outing, with the next two contests being on the road against Division I programs.

IU Columbus travels to Morehead State University on Sunday (Dec. 15). Tip-off is set for 3:00pm. Then a quick turnaround on Tuesday (Dec. 17), where IUC will face the University of Evansville on the road. Tip-off for December 17 is set for 11:00 am.
