COLUMBUS, Ind. - Oakland City (5-3, 1-0) came out firing on all cylinders, overwhelming IU Columbus (1-7, 0-1) for a 99-41 victory at NexusPark, Wednesday night. The Mighty Oaks offensive efficiency and balanced scoring attack were too much for the Crimson Pride to handle, as OCU handed IUC their first conference loss of the season.
Oakland City started strong, jumping out to a 29-20 lead in the first quarter. Their offense continued to shine in the second quarter, putting up 39 points while limiting IU Columbus to just 7 points. The Mighty Oaks defense stifled the Crimson Pride, forcing them into tough shots and limiting their second-chance opportunities. By halftime, Oakland City had a commanding 68-27 lead.
The second half saw little change in momentum, with Oakland City maintaining their high offensive output. Even though the third quarter was quieter, the Mighty Oaks 17-point performance was more than enough to put the game out of reach. The final frame was much of the same, with Oakland City cruising to a 99-41 victory.
Emilee Hope led the way for the Mighty Oaks with 17 points, including 5 three-pointers. She also added 5 rebounds and 4 assists in a strong all-around performance. Courtney Dove provided a strong presence inside, contributing 14 points and 9 rebounds.
Jacelyn Starks scored a game-high 20 points, which included 5 three-pointers. Starks' performance was complimented by her teammate, Amaya Collins, who contributed 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals.
Oakland City shot 49.4% from the field (40-81) and IU Columbus shot just 22.4% (13-58). The Crimson Pride struggled to find any offensive rhythm.
IU Columbus looks to bounce back, with a quick turnaround in a weekend contest. The Crimson Pride travel up to Grace Christian University, Saturday (Dec. 7). Tip-off is set for 3:00pm.
