Calumet Wins Game 2

The Calumet (IN) softball team put on an offensive showcase in Game 2, exploding for 25 runs on 20 hits to overwhelm IUPUC 25-3 in five innings.

The game was tight through the first inning, but Calumet broke it open with a 10-run outburst in the second. Key hits included an RBI single by O'Brien, a two-run single by Ines, a two-run double from Staden, and RBI singles by Slack, Navarro, O'Brien and King.

After IUPUC trimmed the deficit to 14-3 with a three-run third, Calumet responded with nine more runs in the fourth to put the game out of reach. Slack and King each had two-run hits, while Barton crushed a grand slam and Pride added a two-run homer in the frame.

Staden and Marquez tacked on two more runs for Calumet in the fifth on a two-run homer by Marquez to cap the scoring onslaught.

For Calumet, multiple players had huge offensive days. Slack went 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs, while Navarro and Marquez each had two hits and two RBIs. Staden doubled twice while driving in two. O'Brien collected three RBIs and King knocked in four runs.

IUPUC got a solid day at the plate from Shelton, who went 1-for-2 with an RBI single. Heafner and Henry also drove in runs for IUPUC in the loss.

Vaylen Jenson earned the win for Calumet, allowing 3 runs over 3 innings of work. IUPUC's pitching staff struggled, with Henry taking the loss after allowing 14 runs in just 2.2 innings.
