8/31/2024 6:03:00 PM

Box Score The IU Columbus women's volleyball team faced a challenging match against Governors State on Saturday evening, falling in straight sets (25-15, 25-19, 25-22) at the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College gymnasium. The loss drops IU Columbus to a 3-2 record on the season.

Despite a valiant effort, especially in the third set, IU Columbus struggled to find their rhythm against a strong Governors State squad. The home team's offense was led by sophomore outside hitter Cora Baker, who put up an impressive 13 kills with a .667 hitting percentage. Baker's performance was a bright spot in an otherwise difficult night for the IU Columbus attack.

Madison Hunter anchored the defense with 21 digs, while also contributing 3 assists and 3 service aces. Sadie Egan did her best to run the offense, dishing out 13 assists and adding 3 kills of her own.

The match saw IU Columbus improve as the sets progressed. After a tough first set where they managed only 15 points, the team showed resilience, pushing to 19 points in the second set and 22 in the third. This gradual improvement suggests that the team was adapting to Governors State's play style, but ultimately ran out of time to complete a comeback.

Governors State's balanced attack proved too much for IU Columbus to handle. The visitors had five players with 4 or more points, led by Layana Lima with 10 points including 6 kills and 5 service aces.

IU Columbus finished the Saint Mary of the Woods tournament with an impressive 3-1 record (3-2 overall season record).
