IU Columbus Falls to Midway in Hard-Fought Four-Set Battle

The IU Columbus women's volleyball team faced a formidable opponent in Midway on Friday evening, falling in four sets (25-20, 22-25, 25-19, 25-23) at their home gymnasium, at Cera Sports Park. The loss brings the Crimson Pride to a 3-3 record on the season. Despite a strong effort, IU Columbus struggled to maintain consistency against a powerful Midway squad.

IU Columbus' offense was led by sophomore middle blocker Cora Baker, who put up 7 kills with a .077 hitting percentage. Olivia Embry also contributed significantly, adding 5 kills and 2 service aces to the team's tally.

Leah Thompson anchored the defense with an impressive 9 digs, while also contributing to the team's passing game. Sadie Egan showed her versatility on the court, adding 8 digs and 1 kill to the team's effort. Kenzie Bostic was a force at the net, participating in 4 block assists to help slow down Midway's attack.

Midway's balanced attack proved challenging for IU Columbus to handle, with three of their players recording 9 or more kills.

Midway's offense was particularly effective, putting up 92 kills to IU Columbus' 35. The visitors also had the edge in serving, recording 9 aces to IU Columbus' 3. Despite these challenges, IU Columbus fought hard, keeping the fourth set close at 25-23 before ultimately falling short.

IU Columbus finished the match with a team hitting percentage of .050, reflecting the tough defense they faced from Midway. The home team's resilience was evident in their defensive efforts, recording 66 digs and 11 total blocks, nearly matching Midway's 12 blocks.

The Crimson Pride are back in action on September 24th at Boyce College at 7 PM.
