Box Score The IU Columbus Crimson Pride showcased their resilience on Monday, September 23rd, staging a thrilling late-game comeback to secure a 2-2 draw against Georgetown College. This result moved their season record to 2-2-1, marking a significant milestone for the program.
From the opening whistle, the Crimson Pride found themselves under pressure from a relentless Georgetown attack. Despite their defensive efforts, led by goalkeeper
Mallory Gilley, Georgetown broke through in the 26th minute when Laura Beumala found the net, assisted by Bekah Clark. The first half ended with IU Columbus trailing 1-0, having weathered a storm of 19 shots from the visitors.
The second half started much like the first, with Georgetown doubling their lead in the 52nd minute through an unassisted goal from Annie Helwig.
In the 82nd minute, the Crimson Pride's persistence paid off, when
Logan Bierman ignited a comeback, scoring off an assist from Cyanne St. Benard.
Just three minutes later, in the 85th minute, St. Benard turned from provider to scorer, netting the equalizer. Her unassisted goal capped off a remarkable turnaround and secured a well-earned point for the Crimson Pride.
Despite being outshot 28-7 over the course of the match, IU Columbus showed tremendous efficiency, converting two of their six shots on goal. Goalkeeper
Mallory Gilley had a stellar performance, making an impressive 14 saves to keep her team in the game.
The match wasn't without its tense moments, resulting in two yellow cards shown to
Hannah Grimes in the first half and
Rebecca Valdez late in the second.
