IU Columbus Outlasts Boyce in Thrilling Five-Set Victory

Box Score In a nail-biting volleyball match that went the distance, IU Columbus emerged victorious against Boyce College in Louisville, Kentucky on September 24, 2024. The Crimson Pride showcased their resilience and team spirit, battling back from an early deficit to claim a hard-fought 3-2 win (22-25, 25-23, 25-23, 22-25, 15-9).
 
The match was a see-saw affair from the start, with both teams trading blows throughout. Boyce came out strong, taking the first set 25-22, but IU Columbus quickly regrouped. Led by the stellar performances of Cora Baker and Kera Wischmeier, the Crimson Pride fought back to take the next two sets, both with scores of 25-23.
 
Baker was the standout player for IU Columbus, racking up an impressive 18 points with 11 kills and a team-high 6 service aces. Her aggressive serving kept Boyce on their toes and was crucial in swinging the momentum in favor of the Crimson Pride.
 
Wischmeier was another key contributor, notching 11.5 points with 10 kills and an excellent .200 hitting percentage. Her consistent play provided a steady offensive presence for IU Columbus throughout the match.
 
Boyce refused to go down without a fight, however. They rallied in the fourth set, winning it 25-22 and forcing a decisive fifth set. But IU Columbus showed their mettle in the final frame with a 21-19 victory to clinch the match.
 
Defensively, IU Columbus put up a strong front at the net. Kenzie Bostic was a force to be reckoned with, contributing 6 block assists. The team's collective effort on defense, including 61 digs (with Maddie Hunter leading the way with 20), proved crucial in containing Boyce's offensive threats.
 
This victory improves IU Columbus's record to 4-3 for the season. Head coach Jose Olivo praised the team's resilience and ability to perform under pressure. "This win shows the character of our team," they said. "We faced adversity early on but never lost focus. Every player contributed, and that's what made the difference today."
