Women's Basketball Struggles Offensively in Loss to IU Kokomo

KOKOMO, Ind. – The IU Columbus Crimson Pride women's basketball team faced a determined IU Kokomo squad on Saturday, falling 80-45 in a challenging River States Conference matchup. Despite a valiant effort, IU Columbus struggled to find offensive rhythm while the Cougars capitalized on their depth and rebounding advantage.

The Crimson Pride started strong, competing closely in the first quarter and staying within reach at 21-16. Freshman Jacelyn Starks led IU Columbus with 16 points and 6 rebounds, consistently pushing the pace and attacking the rim. However, the Cougars' dominance on the boards began to show in the second quarter, extending their lead to 40-27 at halftime.

IU Kokomo's size and rebounding were critical factors, with forward Mia Catey posting a double-double, tallying 19 points and 15 rebounds. Anna Kiser added 16 points and 9 rebounds, anchoring the Cougars' inside game. IU Kokomo outrebounded IU Columbus 65-43, including 25 offensive rebounds that translated to second-chance points.

The Crimson Pride faced shooting challenges throughout the game, hitting just 22.7% from the field and 12.5% from three-point range. Isyss Donelson provided energy off the bench, contributing 6 rebounds, 3 steals, and 4 points in 24 minutes. Trinity Tatlock also grabbed a team-high 7 rebounds, showing her hustle on both ends of the court.

IU Columbus showed glimpses of their potential, particularly on the offensive glass, where they secured 13 rebounds. However, the team's 20 turnovers proved costly, giving the Cougars opportunities to build momentum and 27 second chance points.

With the loss, IU Columbus falls to 2-13 (0-4 in conference play), while IU Kokomo improves to 6-9 (2-2 conference).

The Crimson Pride will look to regroup as they wrap up their road stretch at IU Southeast on Tuesday (Jan. 14) with an opportunity to reset and refocus. The team aims to continue building on their resilience as they push for improved results in conference play. Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM on Tuesday, 1/14.
