NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Columbus women's basketball team faced a formidable IU Southeast squad on Tuesday night, falling 106-35 in a challenging contest. Despite a solid effort and moments of resilience, the Crimson Pride struggled to find consistency against the Grenadiers' relentless offense and defensive pressure.
The game opened on a competitive note, with IU Columbus battling closely in the first quarter and ending the frame down just 23-20. Freshman Jacelyn Starks sparked the offense with 13 points, including an impressive 3-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc. Amaya Collins chipped in 8 points, making two three-pointers of her own, while Cora Baker led the team on the glass with 6 rebounds.
However, as the game progressed, IU Southeast's depth and efficiency became evident. The Grenadiers took control in the second quarter, outscoring IU Columbus 30-6, and maintained their dominance through the second half. The Crimson Pride's offensive struggles were reflected in their 25.5% shooting from the field and 24 turnovers, which IU Southeast turned into easy transition points.
The Grenadiers showcased their strength, with Ella Brown leading all scorers with 21 points, shooting a scorching 9-of-11 from the field. IU Southeast also received notable contributions from Jesse Ledgerwood, who scored 13 points while converting 5-of-5 free throws, and Makenna Wilson, who added 12 points. Collectively, the Grenadiers shot 50.6% from the field and dominated the boards with a 52-27 rebounding advantage.
The Crimson Pride now hold a 2-14 overall record and remain winless in conference play at 0-5. IU Columbus will return to action on their home court, Saturday, January 18 hosting Alice Lloyd College (Ky.). Tip-off is set for 3:00 PM.
