IU Columbus Drops Hard-Fought Match at Rio Grande

RIO GRANDE, Ohio – The IU Columbus women's soccer team put together one of its strongest defensive performances of the season on Saturday afternoon but came up just short in a 1-0 road loss to Rio Grande.

The match remained scoreless deep into the second half, with the Crimson Pride holding firm against consistent offensive pressure from the RedStorm. Goalkeeper Zoe Bippus anchored the IU Columbus defense with an outstanding effort between the posts, collecting 12 saves while facing 13 shots on goal.

Rio Grande's breakthrough came in the 85th minute when Nevaeh Peffers found the back of the net off an assist from Hannah Halstead, marking the game's only goal.

Despite limited offensive opportunities, the Crimson Pride continued to battle through the final minutes, maintaining composure and energy on the defensive end. The loss drops IU Columbus to 2-8-2 overall and 0-5-0 in conference play, while Rio Grande improves to 4-3-5 (2-1-1 RSC).

Next Up: IU Columbus will look to earn it's first RSC victory on their home pitch. The women's soccer team returns home on Thursday (Oct. 16), when they host IU Kokomo. Kick-off is set for 5:00 PM.
