MIDWAY, Ky. – The IU Columbus men's soccer team came up just short on the road Saturday afternoon, falling 2-1 to Midway University (Ky.) in River States Conference (RSC) action.
The Crimson Pride opened the scoring early, striking in the 10th minute when Kevin Cruz found the back of the net for his fifth goal of the season, finishing a well-placed pass from Eduardo Cordova. The early tally gave IU Columbus a 1-0 lead and momentum throughout much of the first half.
However, Midway equalized just before halftime in the 41st minute off a goal from Rhys Dickson, sending the teams into the break tied at 1-1. The Eagles then took the lead for good in the 54th minute, when Lucas Perotte capitalized on a setup from George Spencer to make it 2-1.
Despite several strong second-half chances, IU Columbus was unable to find the equalizer. The Crimson Pride totaled 13 shots in the match, with six on goal, while holding Midway to just five shots on target.
Cruz led the attack with five shots and one goal, while Cordova added his first assist of the season. Goalkeeper Jacob Kasarda finished the afternoon with three saves in 90 minutes of action.
The setback drops IU Columbus to 5-9-1 overall and 2-5 in RSC play.
Next up: The Crimson Pride return home to host Oakland City University on Thursday (Oct. 30) at the BCSC Soccer Complex. Kick-off is set for 7:00 PM.
