Box Score COLUMBUS, Ind. – History was made at Cera Sports Park Friday night as the IU Columbus women's volleyball team earned its first-ever victory over perennial power Rio Grande, knocking off the RedStorm in a dramatic five-set battle (22-25, 25-18, 19-25, 26-24, 15-12).
With the win, the Crimson Pride (12-6, 3-3 RSC) snapped Rio's unbeaten conference start and sent the home crowd into celebration. The match was a test of resilience, with the Crimson Pride battling back from a 2-1 set deficit before sealing the program-defining win in the fifth.
IU Columbus leaned on a balanced attack, with Cora Baker leading the way with 15 kills, 19 digs, and two aces for a match-high 19 points. Sadie Egan delivered a complete performance with 13 kills, 15 digs, three aces, and 14 assists, while Journee Brown was nearly unstoppable at the net, hitting .400 with 12 kills and a team-best four blocks.
Setter Bailey Stevens kept the offense flowing, dishing out 33 assists to go along with 15 digs, while libero Alyvia Luce anchored the back row with a match-high 22 digs.
The turning point came in the fourth set, when IU Columbus trailed late but stormed back to win 26-24 and force a decisive fifth. Riding that momentum, the Crimson Pride stayed composed in the final frame, outlasting the RedStorm 15-12 to secure the historic result.
Next Up: IU Columbus is right back in action tomorrow (Oct. 4), hosting RSC foe, WVU Tech inside Cera Sports Park. The match-up will also serve as Jersey Night, with fans encouraged to wear their favorite jersey to the game. Game time is set for 1:00 PM.
