The No. 22 ranked Golden Bears, who entered the match unbeaten at 8-0-2, were tested throughout by a determined Crimson Pride squad that refused to back down.
After holding WVU Tech scoreless for over 40 minutes, the hosts broke through late in the first half when Keishon Clarke found the back of the net in the 43rd minute. The Golden Bears extended their lead to 2-0 midway through the second half behind a goal from Leny Duperray assisted by Hugo Roman.
IU Columbus continued to battle, and their persistence paid off in the 82nd minute when Exode Minga capitalized on a loose ball in the box to score his first goal of the season, trimming the deficit to 2-1.
Despite a strong late push and improved offensive rhythm, the Pride couldn't find the equalizer before the final whistle.
Goalkeeper Jacob Kasarda turned in a standout performance between the posts, registering 12 saves against 17 shots on goal to keep IU Columbus within striking distance. Offensively, Alejandro Alvarez, Kevin Cruz, Noah Cordero, and Minga each recorded a shot on goal.
