Men's Soccer Close Season with Senior Day Victory

COLUMBUS, Ind. – The IU Columbus men's soccer team wrapped up its 2025 campaign in fitting fashion, earning a 1-0 victory over Kentucky Christian A. Bezborodov senior dayUniversity on Senior Day at the BCSC Soccer Complex.

Senior midfielder Anton Bezborodov provided the match's only goal in the 19th minute, capitalizing on a defensive miscue and finishing from close range to give the Crimson Pride the early lead. The goal marked Bezborodov's second of the season and proved to be the difference in a defensive battle that saw the Crimson Pride dominate possession and out-shoot the Knights 20-3.

The win secured IU Columbus a 6-10-1 overall record, marking a two-win improvement from the 2024 season and tying the program record for most conference wins in a single season with three.

Goalkeepers Juan Salcedo and Harris Weltz combined for the clean sheet, each registering a save in their respective halves. Defenders Trent Schenk and Benito Robe anchored a backline that limited Kentucky Christian to just two shots on goal.

Saturday's victory also served as a celebration of the program's K. Cruz senior dayseniors, Kevin Cruz and Anton Bezborodov, both of whom have left a lasting mark on Crimson Pride soccer.

Athletic Director Zach McClellan reflected on their impact:

"Kevin Cruz has been instrumental to bringing soccer to IU Columbus," McClellan said. "His calm demeanor off the field and fierce competitiveness on the field has demonstrated what it means to be a member of the Crimson Pride. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for Kevin."

"IU Columbus welcomed Anton this season, expecting big things from him — and he delivered," McClellan continued. "Anton is a special player, and we thank him for the year he spent with us."

With the win, IU Columbus closes the season on a high note, setting new standards for success as the program continues to build momentum heading into 2026.
