OAKLAND CITY, Ind. — IU Columbus women's basketball continued its historic season on Saturday afternoon with a 71–63 road victory over Oakland City University, marking several major milestones for the program.
The win represents the first conference victory in IU Columbus women's basketball history, while also tying the program's on-court wins record from last season and securing the most wins in program history overall. It was also a milestone moment for acting head coach Zach McClellan, who earned his first win leading the Crimson Pride.
IU Columbus (3–9, 1–0 conference) battled through a tightly contested opening half, trailing 20–19 after the first quarter before taking a slim 34–33 advantage into halftime. The Crimson Pride gained separation in the second half by controlling the glass and forcing Oakland City into difficult shots, outscoring the Mighty Oaks 37–30 over the final two quarters.
The Crimson Pride shot 40.8% from the field and were a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line, while holding Oakland City to 34.3% shooting and just 19.0% from three-point range. IU Columbus also forced 19 turnovers, converting OCU's miscues in 18 points.
Abby Fleetwood delivered a standout all-around performance, finishing with 14 points, 12 rebounds, 7 assists, and 4 steals, anchoring IU Columbus on both ends of the floor. Morgan Montgomery added 14 points and 9 rebounds in just 19 minutes, while Amaya Collins knocked down three three-pointers on her way to 11 points.
Off the bench, Cora Baker provided a spark with 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting, and Ryleigh Anderson added 6 points in limited minutes. IU Columbus' depth and defensive effort proved critical down the stretch as the Crimson Pride closed out the road win.
Oakland City was led by Allyson Rideout, who scored 24 points, and Daniela Trias, who added 19, but IU Columbus' defensive pressure limited the rest of the Mighty Oaks' lineup.
The Crimson Pride will return home quickly as they continue a demanding stretch of games.
Next up: IU South Bend at home on Sunday (Dec. 21) at 2:00 PM, marking the team's fifth game in eight days. Acting head coach Zach McClellan will remain at the helm for Sunday's match-up as IU Columbus looks to build on its historic momentum.
