Men's Basketball Overwhelmed by Brescia’s Offensive Surge

OWENSBORO, Ky. – The IU Columbus men's basketball team faced a tough challenge on the road Wednesday night, falling to Brescia (Ky.) 107-68. Despite a stronger second-half effort, an early deficit proved too much to overcome as the Crimson Pride dropped to 1-24 on the season (0-13 in conference play).

Brescia (6-15, 4-9) came out firing, putting up 58 points in the first half while holding IU Columbus to 28. The Bearcats' defensive pressure and efficiency on the glass were key factors, as they out-rebounded the Crimson Pride 47-32 and forced 21 turnovers.

IU Columbus was led by Owen Law, who recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Deylon Johnson and LaRenzo Hopkins provided solid contributions off the bench, scoring 11 and 13 points, respectively. Bobby Wonnell also added 10 points, knocking down two three-pointers.

Brescia's offense was powered by Damian Garcia, who put up a game-high 29 points on 13-of-23 shooting. John Saenz added 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Linkin Lockhart chipped in 20 points, including four three-pointers.

The Crimson Pride showed resilience in the second half, improving their offensive efficiency and outscoring Brescia 40-49 in the final 20 minutes. However, the early deficit proved too large to overcome.

IU Columbus will look to bounce back as they return home for their final three games of the season, starting with a match-up against Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College on Saturday (Feb. 15). Tip-off is set for 1:00 PM.
