(RV) Campbellsville Sweeps Crimson Pride in Doubleheader on the Road

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - The IU Columbus Crimson Pride endured a difficult road trip to Hord Softball Field on Wednesday, falling in both games of a doubleheader against the Campbellsville Tigers by scores of 15-0 and 13-0. Despite the challenging outcomes, the young Crimson Pride squad showed moments of resilience against a powerful Tigers team.

Game 1: Pride's Taylor Records Lone Hit in Opener

The opening contest proved challenging from the outset for IU Columbus, as the Tigers jumped to an early lead with a three-run homer in the first inning. Despite solid contact from several Crimson Pride batters, the Tigers' defense proved equal to the challenge.

Sophomore Hannah Taylor provided the offensive highlight for IU Columbus, recording a sharp single to break up the perfect game. Taylor showed her aggressiveness on the basepaths afterward, though she was ultimately caught stealing to end the threat.

Defensively, starter Erica Henry managed to limit the damage through the first two innings before the Tigers' offense found its rhythm. The Crimson Pride rotated through their pitching staff, with Kaitlyn Spears and Justice Cash also seeing action in relief.

Game 2: Holok and Burkhart Late Spark Not Enough

The nightcap followed a similar pattern, with Campbellsville establishing an early advantage. The Crimson Pride defense showed improvement, including a well-executed double play by right fielder Delanie Bronner that temporarily slowed the Tigers' momentum.

IU Columbus saved their best offensive moments for the final inning, when outfielder Gracie Holok and pinch hitter Andi Burkhart connected for consecutive hits to give the Pride their first serious scoring opportunity of the day. Though unable to push across a run, the sequence provided a positive note to build upon.

Jessica Ebersole started in the circle for the Crimson Pride, with Maddison Brittain and Erica Henry contributing relief innings. The pitching staff battled throughout, even as they faced a Tigers lineup that was firing on all cylinders.

Looking Ahead

For the young Crimson Pride squad, now 0-6 on the season, the doubleheader represented valuable experience against a near ranked opponent. Several freshmen and sophomores saw extended playing time across both contests.

The Crimson Pride return to action this Friday (Feb. 28) for their home opener as they host Taylor University for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
