OAKLAND CITY, Ind. – The IU Columbus women's basketball team faced a tough challenge on the road Tuesday night, falling to Oakland City 104-54 at the Johnson Center.
Abby Fleetwood set the tone for the Crimson Pride (2-20, 0-11 RSC) with an impressive double-double, tallying 14 points, 11 rebounds, four blocks, and two assists while battling on both ends of the floor. Cora Baker provided energy and a presence in the paint. While her stats may not reflect it, she fought for each opportunity on both ends of the floor, contributing five points and four rebounds. IUC's offense was also complimented by Jacelyn Starks, Isyss Donelson, and Tatum McFarland. The three combined for 32 points.
Oakland City (15-7, 10-1 RSC) established control early, jumping out to a 27-10 first-quarter lead and never looking back. The Mighty Oaks dominated the glass, out-rebounding IU Columbus 59-30, and forced 29 turnovers, turning defensive stops into transition points.
Emilee Hope fueled Oakland City's offensive attack, pouring in a game-high 36 points while knocking down six three-pointers. The home team shot 42.5% from the field and racked up 17 steals, making it difficult for IU Columbus to find an offensive rhythm.
Despite the lopsided score, IU Columbus showed flashes of promise, shooting a solid 35.3% from three-point range and converting 76.9% from the free-throw line. The team will look to regroup and prepare for its next matchup as they continue River States Conference play.
IU Columbus returns to action Saturday (Feb. 8) at the Summersville Arena and Convention Center, where they face WVU Tech. Tip-off is set for 3:00 PM.
