COLUMBUS, IN – The IU Columbus women's soccer team (0-0-1) opened their 2025 season with a hard-fought 0-0 draw against visiting Calumet College of St. Joseph (0-0-1) Wednesdsay afternoon at Circle K Fieldhouse at NexusPark.
In a defensive battle that showcased both teams' early-season form, the Crimson Pride outshot Calumet 11-4 and managed to earn a valuable point in their home opener behind solid goalkeeping and organized defending.
IU Columbus controlled much of the possession and territorial advantage, registering 11 shots compared to the Crimson Wave's 4. Each team registered 3 corner kicks, putting consistent pressure on the one another's defense throughout the match.
However, IU Columbus goalkeeper Zoe Bippus was up to the task when called upon, making one save in 45 minutes of action before being relieved by Mallory Gilley, who played a clean second half to preserve the shutout.
The Crimson Pride's best opportunities came from Jessica Finfera, Madison Merritt, and Avy Burkholder, who each registered one shot on goal. Halle Archer was active in the attack with two shots, while Lily Campbell contributed one shot attempt before receiving a yellow card in the 11th minute.
The match remained physical throughout, with both teams combining for 11 fouls. IU Columbus was shown two yellow cards – Campbell in the first half, and Madesyn Sunderhaus in the second half.
Despite ending in a tie, the Crimson Pride showed resilience in defending their goal and managed to create some dangerous moments on the counter-attack. The draw gives both teams a point to start the season as they continue to build chemistry and work toward peak form.
The match was played over 3 hours and 24 minutes, with several stoppages for cards and fouls contributing to the extended playing time.
