INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The IU Columbus volleyball team (4-1) saw their four-game winning streak come to an end Wednesday evening, falling to host and #22 nationally-ranked Marian University (4-1) in straight sets, 25-20, 25-16, 25-19, at the PE Center.
The Crimson Pride struggled to find their offensive rhythm throughout the match, hitting just .122 as a team compared to Marian's efficient .330 attack percentage. IU Columbus managed 30 kills on 98 attempts with 19 errors, while the Knights posted 42 kills on 100 swings with just nine errors.
Junior outside hitter Jada Munro led the squad with 10 kills on 21 attempts. Ruthie Bingham contributed 7 kills and 7 digs, and Journee Brown added 5 kills to pace the IU Columbus attack.
The first set proved to be the most competitive frame of the evening, with the Crimson Pride posting their closest score of 25-19, but the Knights ultimately prevailed and used that momentum to pull away in the second and decisive third set.
From the service line, IU Columbus struggled with 6 service errors while managing just 4 aces. The Crimson Pride were also limited at the net, recording only 4 total blocks compared to Marian's 11.
Defensively, the Crimson Pride were led by libero Alyvia Luce, who anchored the back row throughout the match. Several players contributed to the dig total as IU Columbus worked to extend rallies despite the offensive challenges.
The loss drops IU Columbus to 4-1 on the season, ending what had been an impressive start to the campaign. The Crimson Pride will look to bounce back and return to their winning ways in their next outing.
