Crimson Pride Fall to RV Shawnee State in Conference Matchup

COLUMBUS, Ind. — IU Columbus ran into a hot-shooting Shawnee State team on Saturday afternoon, falling 95–50 in a River States Conference match-up at home.

The Crimson Pride stayed within striking distance early, trailing just 18–15 after the first quarter, but Shawnee State used a strong second-quarter surge to take control of the game. The Bears outscored IU Columbus 21–7 in the second period to build a 39–22 halftime lead and never looked back.

Shawnee State continued to extend its advantage after the break, scoring 26 points in the third quarter and 30 more in the fourth while shooting 52.1 percent from the field for the game.

Hadassah Hurt led IU Columbus in scoring with 11 points, knocking down eight free throws. Amaya Collins added 10 points and recorded five steals, while Morgan Montgomery chipped in eight points and two blocks. Brooklyn McConnell finished with nine points off the bench.

Emma Beaver controlled the glass for the Crimson Pride, pulling down a team-high nine rebounds, while Abby Fleetwood contributed six rebounds, three assists, and two blocks.

IU Columbus forced 23 Shawnee State turnovers and recorded 10 steals, but struggled offensively, shooting 24.2 percent from the field and 20.8 percent from three-point range.

The Crimson Pride move to 4–12 overall and 2–2 in conference play, while Shawnee State improves to 12–4 overall and 3–1 in the RSC.

IU Columbus will look to bounce back in its next conference match-up as the River States Conference schedule continues.

Next Up: The Crimson Pride return to action on their home floor on Tuesday (Jan. 13) as they take on IU Kokomo. Tip-off is set for 6:00 PM.
