Box Score OAKLAND CITY, Ind. – IU Columbus battled through a strong first half but couldn't keep pace after the break, falling 87–71 to Oakland City on Wednesday evening at the Johnson Center in River States Conference play.
The Crimson Pride (2–19, 0–9 RSC) went into halftime tied at 36-36 after an efficient opening 20 minutes, but Oakland City outscored IU Columbus 51-35 in the second half to pull away for the conference win.
Trevin Lieck led IU Columbus with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Damontae Thompson added 13 points, eight rebounds, and four assists, knocking down 3-of-6 from three-point range. Kyan Reichhoff also scored 13 points and dished out four assists, hitting 3-of-6 from deep.
LaRenzo Hopkins provided a strong spark off the bench with eight points, four assists, and two steals on 4-of-5 shooting, while Airrion Boyd contributed nine points and seven rebounds.
IU Columbus shot 40.0% from the field and 40.0% from three (8-of-20), while converting 73.3% from the free-throw line (11-of-15). The Crimson Pride also finished with a 40-46 rebounding effort and recorded 14 assists on 26 made baskets.
The first half featured back-and-forth action, with both teams trading runs and neither side able to build separation. IU Columbus' balanced scoring and perimeter shooting helped keep the game even heading into the break.
Oakland City created separation in the second half with efficient offense and interior scoring, building momentum and gradually extending the lead. Despite continued effort from the Crimson Pride, the Mighty Oaks maintained control down the stretch to secure the win.
