Box Score The IU Columbus volleyball team faced their second tough opponent on the weekend on Saturday as #23 ranked IU Kokomo came into CERA Sports Park. The Cougars showed why they deserve that ranking as they dominated from the start.
The first set began with the visitors taking advantage of Crimson Pride errors and easy kills to jump in front 13-5. IU Columbus came back behind the serving of
Bailey Stevens to trim the deficit to13-10. That was as close as the home team would get as the Cougars outscored the Crimson Pride 13-4 on the way to a 25-14 first set win.
The next two sets also showed the Cougars' dominance at the net. The visitors had 27 kills compared to 14 for the Crimson Pride. The final score was indicative of the overall level of play on this day as the Cougars defeated the Crimson Pride 25-14, 25-18, 25-18. The weekend did show that the Crimson Pride can compete with the top of the conference when they play error free and take advantage of the opponents' mistakes, as they won the first set against 33-1 St. Mary of-the-Woods on Friday. The seniors should be proud of how far this program has come in just four years. While this was the final home match of the season, the Crimson Pride still have two more road matches and the River States Conference tournament to play.
Next on the schedule: The Crimson Pride travel to Owensboro, Kentucky to face Brescia University on Saturday, October 31st. First serve is set for 1:00 pm.
