Crimson Pride Baseball Goes 1-3 in North Carolina

IUC takes opener 14-11 in tough road trip

Friday, February 13
Game 1

IU Columbus opened the series with Carolina University at Mando Field at Winston Salem, NC with a 1st inning 2-out solo homer by Trey VanMeter. Bruins 1st baseman Danny Gonzalez hit a 3-run homer in the bottom of the inning, and the slugfest was on.The Crimson Pride came back with 5 runs in the 2nd with a pair of 2-run homers by Grayson Roll and VanMeter to lead 6-3. They added 2 more in the 4th, but Carolina answered with a Gonzlaez 2-run home run to make it 8-5. The Bruins put together another 2-out, bases empty rally in the 5th to tie the score at 8-8. Zane Smith struck out Wesley to end the threat. Senior Carson McNulty put the Crimson Pride back on top with a solo shot to give IUC a 9-8 lead going into the 7th. IUC added 5 more in the top of the 7th. Carolina scored 3 in the bottom of the 7th, as Gonzalez connected for his 3rd bomb of the game, but Gavin Haltom held on for the save with the final score 14-11.

Game 2
IUC opened up the second game of the doubleheader with 2 runs in the top of the 1st, using a pair of HBP and a walk sandwiched between 2 singles. Carolina answered with 1 run in the bottom of the 1st and added 4 more in the 2nd. Jasean Brown and Elijah Prince held the Crimson Pride offense the rest of the way, and the Bruins added 2 runs in the 5th and 3 in the 6th to make the final score 10-2.

Saturday, February 14
Game 1

The Crimson Pride offense was quiet in Saturday's opener, managing only 3 hits against Bruins pitching. Brayden Furnish went the whole game on the mound for IUC, giving up 4 runs on hits to go along with 5 strikeouts and just 2 walks. Gonzalez hit another home run for Carolina, and the final score was 4-0 Bruins.

Game 2

IU Columbus closed the weekend against Carolina University at Mando Field. The Crimson Pride wasted no time getting on the board, plating two runs in the first inning on a VanMeter home run. Carolina scored single runs in the bottom of the 1st and 2nd. The Crimson Pride scored once in the 3rd without recording a hit, using a walk and 2 hit batters to load the bases. VanMeter scored on a groundout by senior catcher Etahn Guire, making the score 3-2 IUC. The Bruins the struck for 6 unearned 2-out runs in the bottom of the 3rd on a single, 3 doubles and a 3-run HR. Carolina added 2 runs in the 4th and 2 more in the 5th to break the game open. IUC added a run in the 5th and VanMeter homered again in the 6th to complete the scoring, making the final 12-7.
