The IU Columbus volleyball team continued it's great start to the season by winning four of five matches in Terre Haute over the weekend. They won all three of their matches on Friday in three sets. Saturday was a different story as they suffered their first loss of the season in four sets to Governors State before rebounding to defeat Alice Lloyd . It is worth noting they were without senior outside hitter Cora Baker for this Showdown in the Woods event.

Friday, August 28
Haskell Indian Nations University was the first opponent of the weekend, and they played very well at the start of the match. Haskell led 22-20 in the first set before the Crimson Pride rallied, winning five of the next six points to close out the set 25-23. The second set was close as well with the Crimson Pride pulling away at the end by winning five of the last seven points to take the set 25-21. The third set saw the Crimson Pride take the lead at 4-3 and they eventually pulled away for a 25-17 margin and a three set victory.

The next opponent was Mount Mary University, and IU Columbus started out strong. With Bailey Stevens serving two aces, the Crimson Pride jumped out to a 5-0 lead and never looked back. They won the first set 25-17, and stayed in control throughout the match, winning the final sets by the scores of 25-17 and 25-18.

The third match of the day was against the University of Michigan - Dearborn. The first set went back-and-forth until the score was tied at 22-22. The Crimson Pride finished with three straight points on a kill by Bre Lawrence and two kills by Mika Salinas, with all three coming on assists by Lexi Closson. The Crimson Pride fell behind 10-4 in the second set before rallying. After winning three points  to cut the deficit to 10-7, Riley Scroggins served five consecutive aces to put IU Columbus on top 12-10. Another seven point run put the Crimson Pride in control and they took the second set by a score of 25-17. The third set was another back-and-forth affair, and with UM Dearborn leading 23-22 the Crimson Pride rallied to take the final three points and win the third set 25-23.

Saturday, August 29
IU Columbus started play Saturday with a good first set against Governors State, winning 25-19. Governors State won the final three sets by the scores of 25-21, 26-24, and 25-19 to hand the Crimson Pride their first loss of the season. The third set was key as IU Columbus led 24-23, but Governors State won the final three points and take control of the match.

The opponent for the fifth and final match of the weekend was Alice Lloyd. The Crimson Pride jumped out to a big 20-10 lead in the first set. Alice Lloyd took advantage of some uncharacteristic errors by IU Columbus to cut the margin to 24-23, but a kill by Sadie Egan finished off the first set 25-23. The Crimson Pride jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second set and cruised to a 25-11win. They finished up the weekend with a solid third set, winning by the score of 25-14.
