Men's Basketball Falls to Bethel (TN), Sylva Makes All-Classic Team

MCKENZIE, Tenn. - Despite a strong shooting performance from Ben Silva, the IU Columbus basketball team fell to Bethel University 106-69 on Saturday night in the final game of the Chick-fil-A Classic.

Silva, fresh off his tournament All-Classic Team honors, showcased his shooting prowess by connecting on 8-of-11 field goals, including a stellar 4-of-5 performance from three-point range. Damontae Thompson complemented Silva's effort with 16 points, hitting 6-of-11 field goals and all four of his free throw attempts.

The Crimson Pride struggled to contain Bethel's balanced offensive attack, as the Wildcats shot a blistering 63.8% from the field. Bethel's depth proved decisive, with 17 players scoring and three reaching double figures, led by Brayden Nunnally's 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting.

Rebounding proved to be a significant factor in the contest, with Bethel holding a commanding 41-14 advantage on the glass. Gavin Dowling led IU Columbus with four rebounds, while the team managed just six offensive boards throughout the game.

Owen Law provided a spark off the bench with five points in 23 minutes, while Nathan Pickett contributed two points in 11 minutes of action. The Crimson Pride finished the night shooting 42.2% from the field and 40% from beyond the arc.

IU Columbus will look to secure their first win of the season in their next contest. The Crimson Pride return to action Monday, November 11, on the road, against Saint Xavier University (Ill.). Tip-off is set for 8:00 pm.
