COLUMBUS, Ind. – The IU Columbus women's basketball team put forth a valiant effort but couldn't overcome a second-quarter slump, ultimately falling to Alice Lloyd College (Ky.) 82-63 on Saturday afternoon at the Circle K Fieldhouse at NexusPark. Despite impressive individual performances, the Crimson Pride's shooting struggles and turnovers proved costly.
IU Columbus started strong, taking a 15-12 lead after the first quarter. Jacelyn Starks was a bright spot, showcasing her scoring ability early and setting the tone for the Crimson Pride.
The second quarter proved pivotal as Alice Lloyd outscored IU Columbus 25-9. The Eagles capitalized on defensive stops and turnovers while dominating the boards. The Crimson Pride's shooting woes began to surface during this stretch, leaving them trailing 37-24 at halftime.
IU Columbus showed resolve in the second half, led by a career-best performance from Jacelyn Starks, who finished with 31 points, hitting two three-pointers and converting 13 of 15 free throws. Isyss Donelson added energy off the bench, scoring 12 points and providing key defensive stops.
However, Alice Lloyd's balanced attack, fueled by Jamie Cowan (20 points, 10 rebounds) and Kennedy Harvel (20 points), kept the Crimson Pride at bay. The Eagles' strong 47.3% field goal shooting and a stifling defense that limited IU Columbus to 19% from three-point range sealed the outcome.
