Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

RSC No. 1 Rio Grande Bests IUC Saturday Afternoon

RIO GRANDE, Ohio — The IU Columbus women's basketball team faced a tough road test, falling to the University of Rio Grande RedStorm 122-56 at Newt Oliver Arena. Despite persistent effort from the Crimson Pride, the RedStorm's efficiency and dominance in the paint proved overwhelming.

IU Columbus started strong with Amaya Collins leading the way, scoring a team-high 17 points, including two three-pointers, while shooting a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line. Jacelyn Starks added 12 points and Abby Fleetwood came off the bench to contribute 13 points and 8 rebounds. However, the Crimson Pride's 30.6% shooting from the field limited their ability to keep pace with Rio Grande's high-powered offense.

The RedStorm set the tone early, taking a 30-18 lead after the first quarter and extending their advantage at halftime to 59-35. Their dominance was led by Jasmine Jordan, who posted an astounding 39 points and 28 rebounds. Kaylee Darnell added 35 points and 8 assists, as Rio Grande maintained control on the boards, outrebounding IU Columbus 67-27.

Despite the tough loss, the Crimson Pride showcased grit and determination against the 11th ranked team in the nation. They connected on 85.7% of their free throws (6-for-7) and made efforts to limit mistakes in the second half. Cora Baker and Tatum McFarland chipped in with contributions in key moments, displaying the team's commitment to improvement.

The Crimson Pride look to get back in the win column, with two more opportunities next week. They travel to Midway University (Ky.) on Thursday and tip-off at 7:30 PM before heading to IU East for a Saturday match-up at 3:00 PM.
