Women's Basketball Struggles Against Midway in Road Loss

MIDWAY, Ky. – The IU Columbus Crimson Pride faced a tough Midway squad on the road Thursday night, falling 99-52. A slow start put IU Columbus in an early hole, and despite a stronger second-half effort, Midway's efficiency and depth proved too much to overcome.

Midway jumped out to a commanding 29-4 lead in the first quarter, forcing IU Columbus to play from behind for the rest of the game. The Crimson Pride found more offensive success in the second quarter, scoring 16 points, but Midway maintained control with a 57-20 halftime advantage.

Despite the challenging night, Amaya Collins delivered a strong performance, leading all scorers with 18 points while adding five rebounds and two assists. Cora Baker also made an impact, contributing 10 points and seven rebounds, while Jacelyn Starks provided a spark off the bench with nine points.

IU Columbus shot 35.7% from the field and 22.2% from beyond the arc but struggled with turnovers, committing 30 in the game.

Midway displayed a balanced attack, with five players scoring in double figures. A'Lyrica Hughes and Atlantis White led the Eagles with 11 points each, while Jacie Chesser added 10 points and seven rebounds off the bench. Midway controlled the boards with a 53-32 rebounding advantage and converted 47.6% of their shots from the field.

IU Columbus returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 1) as they hit the road for another RSC matchup against the IU East Red Wolves. Tip-off is set for 3:00 PM.
