RV Rio Grande Handles Men's Soccer on the Road

RIO GRANDE, Ohio – The IU Columbus men's soccer team faced a tough road test on Saturday afternoon at Evan E. Davis Field, falling 6-0 to Rio Grande in a hard-fought River States Conference matchup.

The Crimson Pride struggled to generate offense, finishing with just four shots and one one goal throughout the 90 minutes. Goalkeeper Jacob Kasarda made nine saves, keeping the score from climbing even higher against the potent RedStorm attack.

Rio Grande opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when Facundo Rossich converted a pass from Tommy Munoz Salazar, and the RedStorm never looked back. The second half saw a flurry of goals, with Rossich, Munoz Salazar, Andre Louro, and Hugo Ferreira combining to push Rio Grande to a 6-0 advantage by the 80th minute.

The Crimson Pride's defense worked hard to slow the opposition, but Rio Grande's high-pressure attack and efficient finishing proved too much on the day. IU Columbus falls to 5-7-1 overall and 2-3 in RSC play, while Rio Grande improves to 5-3-3 (3-0 RSC).

Despite the lopsided scoreline, IU Columbus showed resilience and determination, creating some opportunities late in the match and continuing to battle through every minute.

Next Up: The Crimson Pride return home for a key River States Conference matchup against Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College on Thursday, October 23. The match is set to start at 7:00 PM.
