Cardoso and Krueckeberg Score in Setback Against Saint Mary-of-the-Woods

COLUMBUS, Ind. – The IU Columbus men's soccer team battled hard under the lights Thursday evening at the BCSC Soccer Complex but ultimately fell 4–2 to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in a physical conference match-up.

The Crimson Pride struck first in the 23rd minute when Christian Cardoso buried a cross from Alejandro Alvarez, giving IU Columbus the early advantage. However, the Pomeroys responded quickly, netting two goals in a three-minute stretch to take a 2–1 lead into halftime.

The Pomeroys extended their advantage early in the second half with a pair of goals just 48 seconds apart, pushing the score to 4–1. IU Columbus continued to fight, cutting into the deficit in the 81st minute when Dylan Krueckeberg finished off a setup from Trent Schenk to make it 4–2.

Despite generating 15 total shots (nine on goal) and creating several quality chances, the Crimson Pride couldn't find the back of the net again.

Goalkeeper Jacob Kasarda tallied seven saves in the match, while Krueckeberg, Alvarez, and Cardoso paced the IU Columbus attack.

The contest proved to be a physical one, featuring 12 yellow cards between the two sides.

With the loss, IU Columbus moves to 5-8-1 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

The Crimson Pride will look to bounce back on the road this Saturday (Oct. 25), as they travel to Midway University (Ky.) for a key conference match-up. Kick-off is set for 2:30 PM.
