Crimson Pride Rally Falls Short Against Bearcats

COLUMBUS, Ind. – IU Columbus women's soccer put together a spirited second-half fightback but ultimately fell 2-1 to Brescia (Ky.) on Thursday afternoon at Richard Wigh Soccer Complex.

After a scoreless first half, the Bearcats (7-2-0, 2-0-0 RSC) struck quickly with two goals just 42 seconds apart early in the second frame. Ana Victorica opened the scoring in the 51st minute before Geneva Hann doubled the lead moments later.

The Crimson Pride (2-5-2, 0-2-0 RSC) refused to go quietly, applying pressure late in the match. Junior midfielder Lily Campbell cut the deficit in half in the 82nd minute, finishing off a chance inside the box for her first goal of conference play.

IU Columbus had multiple looks in the closing minutes but could not find the equalizer.

Goalkeeper Zoe Bippus was outstanding in net, facing a barrage of 28 shots and making 13 saves to keep the Crimson Pride within striking distance. Offensively, IU Columbus tallied 10 total shots, with six on target, led by Campbell's two attempts.

Next Up: The Crimson Pride will look to bounce back this weekend when they continue River States Conference action as they travel to WVU Tech. Kick-off is set for 5:30 PM.
