Early Goals Sink IU Columbus in RSC Road Test

BECKLEY, W.Va. – IU Columbus Women's Soccer showed resilience on the road Saturday evening but came up short in a 2-0 loss to WVU Tech at Paul Cline Stadium.

The Golden Bears, one of the River States Conference's top teams at 6-2-2 overall (3-0 RSC), struck early with goals in the 2nd and 18th minutes to take a 2-0 lead that would hold through the remainder of the match.

The Crimson Pride defense settled in after the early goals, holding WVU Tech scoreless for the final 70 minutes of play. Goalkeeper Zoe Bippus turned in one of her best performances of the season, registering 13 saves on 15 shots on goal to keep IU Columbus within reach throughout the contest.

Offensively, Lily Campbell led the attack with three shots, including two on target, while the Crimson Pride continued to pressure the Golden Bears' back line in the second half.

IU Columbus finished the match with three total shots, while WVU Tech held a 22-3 advantage and an 8-1 edge in corner kicks. Despite the stat gap, IUC remained disciplined, matching WVU Tech physically with 11 fouls to their 13 in a competitive battle.

The loss drops IU Columbus to 2-6-2 overall and 0-3 in RSC play.

Next Up: The Crimson Pride look to earn their first conference win when they return to their home pitch on Thursday (Oct. 9) as they take on RSC opponent, IU East. The match is set to start at 4:30 PM at Richard Wigh Soccer Complex.
