Crimson Pride Outshot in 2-0 Defeat to Red Wolves

COLUMBUS, Ind. – The IU Columbus women's soccer team put up a determined defensive effort on Thursday night but came up short in a 2-0 loss to IU East at the BCSC Turf Field.

The Crimson Pride held their ground through much of the opening half, limiting the Red Wolves to one goal in the 43rd minute when Rylee Meyer scored off an assist from Maddie Moore. IU Columbus continued to battle in the second half, creating a few offensive chances of their own but couldn't find the back of the net.

Freshman goalkeeper Zoe Bippus turned in another strong performance, recording nine saves against 11 shots on goal while playing all 90 minutes in net. Offensively, Avy Burkholder and Halle Archer each registered shots on goal for the Crimson Pride, testing IU East keeper Elizabeth Sarfo-Benson, who finished with two saves.

IU East extended its lead in the 83rd minute when Asia Espiritu scored off a setup from Vanessa Temple, sealing the match.

Despite the final score, IU Columbus showed flashes of strong defensive organization and composure, especially against one of the top teams in the River States Conference.

The loss drops the squad to 2-7-2 overall and 0-4 in conference play.

Next Up: The Crimson Pride will look to regroup as they continue conference play next week, traveling to face the University of Rio Grande (OH) on Saturday (Oct. 11).
