COLUMBUS, Ind. – The IU Columbus women's soccer team made a statement Thursday afternoon, earning its first conference win since 2023 with a 2-1 victory over Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College at the BCSC Soccer Complex.
The Crimson Pride came out strong in the opening half, controlling possession and finding the breakthrough in the 23rd minute when Halle Archer capitalized on a loose ball in the box to put IU Columbus ahead 1-0.
The momentum carried into the second half as the Crimson Pride doubled their lead in the 63rd minute. Lily Campbell found the back of the net off an assist from Archer, extending the advantage to 2-0.
Despite a late push from the Pomeroy's, including a goal in the 81st minute by Olivia Wainscott, IU Columbus' defense held firm. Goalkeeper Zoe Bippus anchored the backline with an impressive eight saves to secure the victory.
IUC finished the match with 12 total shots, nine on goal, while limiting Saint Mary-of-the-Woods to just one goal on 11 shots.
With the win, IU Columbus earns its first conference victory of the 2025 season and snaps a two-year conference drought, and a six-game losing streak.
The Crimson Pride (now 3-9-2 overall and 1-6 in conference play) will look to build on the momentum this Saturday (Oct. 25), when they travel to face Midway University (Ky.). Kickoff is set for 12:00 PM.
