Women's Soccer Claims Road Win at Midway

MIDWAY, Ky. – The IU Columbus women's soccer team made program history on Saturday afternoon, earning its first mulit-conference win season with a 2-0 road victory over Midway University (Ky.).

The Crimson Pride struck early and never looked back. In the 8th minute, Madalynn Phillips buried her fourth goal of the season off an assist from Parker Austrup to put IU Columbus ahead 1-0. The Crimson Pride continued to apply pressure throughout the first half, out-shooting Midway 7-6.

In the second half, IU Columbus extended its lead as Rebecca Valdez capitalized on a defensive miscue in the 61st minute, scoring unassisted to make it 2-0. Valdez's goal marked her third of the season and provided the Crimson Pride with crucial breathing room down the stretch.

Defensively, IU Columbus remained solid from start to finish. Goalkeeper Zoe Bippus recorded five saves en route to her fourth clean sheet of the season, anchoring a back line that held strong against 11 Midway shot attempts.

Overall, IU Columbus tallied 14 shots (five on goal) while maintaining composure with just eight fouls to Midway's nine. The win improves the Crimson Pride to 4-9-2 overall and 2-6 in River States Conference play— marking the first time in program history the team has recorded multiple conference victories in a season.

Next up: IU Columbus returns home to host RV Oakland City University on Thursday (Oct. 30) at the BCSC Soccer Complex. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:30 PM.
