Women's Basketball Falls to Brescia Despite Strong Effort

OWENSBORO, Ky. – The IU Columbus women's basketball team put up a fight on the road but ultimately fell to Brescia (Ky.) 82-57 on Wednesday night. The Crimson Pride (2-22, 0-13) had a strong second and third quarter but couldn't overcome a slow start and a dominant fourth quarter from the Bearcats (16-7, 8-5).

Jacelyn Starks led IU Columbus with 20 points, shooting 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. Abby Fleetwood had an all-around solid performance with 10 points, nine rebounds, and four assists, while Amaya Collins added 10 points and six rebounds off the bench.

Brescia took control early, outscoring IU Columbus 24-9 in the first quarter. The Crimson Pride responded with a strong 18-point second quarter to keep the game within reach at halftime. However, the Bearcats pulled away in the fourth, outscoring IU Columbus 27-13 to seal the win.

The Bearcats were led by Caroline Lucas, who scored 15 points and recorded five steals. Brooklyn Stewart added 14 points and seven rebounds, while Hailee Johnson and Shelbie Beatty each contributed 11 points.

The Crimson Pride will look to regroup as they return home for their final three games of the season, beginning with a match-up against Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College on Saturday (Feb. 15). Tip-off is set for 3:00 PM.
