OAKLAND CITY, Ind. – Despite a historic performance from sophomore Owen Law, IU Columbus came up short against Oakland City, falling 123-109 on Tuesday night at the Johnson Center.
Law etched his name into the IU Columbus record books, scoring a career-high and program-record 36 points on an efficient 14-of-19 shooting, including 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. He also recorded a double-double, pulling down 12 rebounds, while adding four assists and three steals in a dominant individual effort.
The Crimson Pride (1-22, 0-11 RSC) showed resilience throughout the game, especially in the second half, outscoring the Mighty Oaks 65-60 after a slow start. Trailing by 19 at halftime, IU Columbus found its rhythm offensively, fueled by Bobby Wonnell's sharpshooting off the bench. Wonnell poured in 24 points, hitting 5-of-8 from three-point range, while Damontae Thompson added 17 points and seven assists.
IUC shot an impressive 56% from the field and 46.4% from deep, but Oakland City's size and rebounding proved too much to overcome. The Mighty Oaks held a 46-31 edge on the glass, creating second-chance opportunities that kept them in control.
Oakland City (6-17, 3-8 RSC) saw six players score in double figures, led by Aamir Mack's 24 points and 14 rebounds. The hosts also dished out 31 assists on 45 made field goals, showcasing their ball movement and efficiency.
The Crimson Pride will look to build on their offensive success as they travel to Summersville, West Virginia this weekend, where they'll face RSC foe, WVU Tech. Tip-off is set for 1:00 PM on Saturday (Feb. 8).
