IU Columbus Women's Soccer Blanked in Conference Opener

COLUMBUS, Ind. – IU Columbus women's soccer opened River States Conference play on Saturday afternoon, showing grit throughout the night before falling 4-0 to Shawnee State at the BCSC Turf Field.

The Crimson Pride generated 13 total shots and 10 on goal in their league debut but couldn't find the back of the net against a steady Shawnee State defense. Junior Goalkeeper Mallory Gilley anchored the IU Columbus back line with 13 saves while facing 25 shots, including 18 on target.

Freshman forward Halle Archer led the Crimson Pride offense with four shots and three on goal, while Avy Burkholder and Lily Campbell each tallied two shots on target. Shawnee State scored twice in the first half, striking in the 19th and 34th minutes, and added two more late in the second half to secure the conference win.

The evening also featured a special Greensburg Community Night, recognizing the Greensburg Community High School girls soccer team at halftime. GreensburgWSOC Greensburg team pic Community was also there in support of freshman defender Emma McQueen, a Greensburg native. 

Next Up: IU Columbus will look to bounce back on Thursday, October 2, when they continue River States Conference play at home. The match will also serve as Columbus Express Soccer Club Appreciation Night, celebrating local youth soccer players and their families at Richard Wigh Soccer Complex. All Columbus Express players will be recognized at halftime of the men's game. Match details are listed below.
