Crimson Pride Softball Opens Season in North Carolina

Friday, February 7

Game 1
The Crimson Pride opened their season in the top of the 1st with an RBI single by senior Alexia Heafner, scoring senior Renee Lecher. Host Montreat scored 4 runs in the bottom of the first. IUC scored one run in the 2nd as Jazlynn Stewart hit a one-out double and moved to 3rd on a single by Linnea Baldner. Justice Cash brought home Stewart with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-2. The Cavaliers answered with 4 more runs in the bottom of the 2nd to lead 8-2. With 2 outs in the 6th the Crimson Pride rallied for 5 runs to trim the lead to 8-7. Cierra Ceamer, Sydney Sauri, Lecher and Mallory Shelton each had hits in the inning. IUC loaded the bases with one out in the 7th but were unable to push the tying run across home plate.

Game 2
A leadoff walk to Cash was followed up by a bunt single by Hefner, and an infield single by Cramer loaded the bases. After a wild pitch scored Cash, Sauri singled up the middle for a 3 run lead. Cramer led off the 3rd with a single. After Sauri walked, Shelton doubled down the right field line, scoring both runners. Julia Abbott walked and Mackenzie Matern reached on a bunt single to load the bases. Cash then delivered a bases clearing double down the left field line, and the lead was 8-0. With the score 8-1 going into the bottom of the 7th, the Cavaliers rallied for 5 runs. Reliever Cailie Beikes struck out the potential tying run to give the Crimson Pride their first win on the season.

Sunday, February 9th

Game 1
The Crimson Pride faced Alice Lloyd for a doubleheader and the Eagles scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 1st. IUC scored 2 unearned runs im the top of the 3rd to make it 4-2. Alice Lloyd scored 5 times in the bottom of the 4th to lead 9-2. IUC scored 2 runs in the 6th and 2 more in the 7th to make the final score 9-6.

Game 2
Alice Lloyd scored single runs in the 1st, 3rd and 4th innings to lead 3-0. The Crimson Pride answered with one run in the top of the 5th. Baldner reached on a 2 out single and scored on a double by Cramer to cut the lead to 3-1. The Eagles scored 3 in the bottom half to increase their lead to 6-1. Lily Culp doubled and Chloe Linn walked to start the 7th for IUC. After Culp was thrown out at 3rd, Cash singled and Cramer walked to load the bases. Shelton followed with a 2 run single to bring the tying run to the plate, but that was where the rally ended for a 6-3 final score.
